For my upcoming board book, Dreidel Day (Kar Ben/ Lerners Publishing House), I decided to make a vest decorated with the same dreidels as in my illustrations so I can wear it during my presentation with my puppet.
I couldn’t figure out how to thread the sewing machine so finally I gave up & brought it over to my friend who stitched the side & I sewed the rest by hand.
I photocopied the dreidels on a special stick on fabric.
In case you’re wondering how the cat puppet is holding the dreidel, I used this dreidel that you can fill with candy & I stuck magnets inside. Then I decoupaged the dreidel so it also looks like the ones in the book.
I inserted metal disks in the cat’s paws so they grab the magnets.
feels good to be working with fabric, ribbon, magnets & decoupage instead of just clicking the key board.
