For my upcoming board book, Dreidel Day (Kar Ben/ Lerners Publishing House), I decided to make a vest decorated with the same dreidels as in my illustrations so I can wear it during my presentation with my puppet.
I couldn’t figure out how to thread the sewing machine so finally I gave up & brought it over to my friend who stitched the side & I sewed the rest by hand.
I photocopied the dreidels on a special stick on fabric.
In case you’re wondering how the cat puppet is holding the dreidel, I used this dreidel that you can fill with candy & I stuck magnets inside. Then I decoupaged the dreidel so it also looks like the ones in the book.
I inserted metal disks in the cat’s paws so they grab the magnets.
feels good to be working with fabric, ribbon, magnets & decoupage instead of just clicking the key board.
Just finished baking hamantaschen from my child friendly, very simple recipe in my book, Purim Goodies.

Advanced copy of my new board book, Dreidel Day just arrived at my door thanks to my wonderful publisher, Kar Ben/Lerner Publishing Group.
It’s launching in the fall but I’m all psyched about promoting it and planning my presentation.
The more I work with paper, the more I discover its possibilities. If you shred it, it makes great hay for my goat.
So proud to have my illustration included in great company on the best blog for writers & illustrators.
May you have a cool day, filled with hearts.
Purim starts on March first and what better way to celebrate this fun holiday than with lots of hamantaschen and my picture book, Purim Goodies.
It’s a funny twist on an old Sholom Aleichem tale with hutzpah, humor and 2 child friendly Hamantaschen recipes. Also, I perform my story dressed up in costumes at schools, libraries & book stores . To see more, visit me at http://www.amaliahoffman.com & click on Storytelling.
I painted this grandma. She’s obsessed with shoes. So am I
Now, that my feet are bad & I mostly walk around in sneakers, I long for fancy shoes…
